Registered Substance Abuse Supervisor (RSAS)

This certification is NOT reciprocal with other IC&RC member boards.

The RSAS credential is a credential that is intended to provide organizations and industry a qualified standard for all clinicians' working within safety-sensitive environments where SAE activities are occurring (drug-testing, follow-up, clinical assessments, and treatment of substance use issues).

The CACCF is offering this professional certification in the Substance Disorder's area. The RSAE Program is recognized by the CACCF as the National Standard of programming in the Substance Disorders field as it relates to Safety-Sensitive Work Environments.


Requirements:

In order to gain registration in the RSAS Programs an individual must meet the following qualifications:

Individual needs to meet or exceed the qualifications of an RSAE
Possess over 5 years’ experience in the direct treatment of Substance Disorders; a portion of this experience (one-half) must come from an Inpatient Treatment facility or a recognized Outpatient Clinic. As an alternate to inpatient/outpatient treatment experience, the completion of 150 neutrally audited assessments (post-registration as an RSAE) under CACCF Programming may be recognized as sufficient.
The RSAS must also be a licensed physician; a licensed or registered social worker (Master's level); a licensed or registered psychologist (Master's level) or a credentialed clinical alcohol and drug abuse counsellor (Master's level) as there is a requirement to oversee work where a psychological fitness for work statement is made.

 










RSAS training will consist of a standardized training protocol as delivered by the CACCF. All candidates will have to complete an examination upon course completion.

Re-Certification
Registrants must re-certified every 2 years by submitting proof of 40 CACCF approved continuing education hours. Of these 40 hours, 28 hours must be core addiction specific training. Click Here for clarification of the requirements for "Core" and "Related" hours.
